Boise’s a city that’s about more than fast-paced living.

In the foundations of downtown lies the recurring idea that life is best lived one step at a time. That true living is experienced not in zipping from place to place, but through the stressless enjoyment of following the rolling path that takes you there.

Use that path from A to B to recharge your batteries and lose yourself in nature. Use those steps to slow down the way you live.

Boise’s Greenbelt system is a tribute to recreational adventure and environmental inspiration. The paved serpent winds a total of 25 miles along the Boise River and hits some of the brightest spots in the valley.

What’s most impressive about the Greenbelt may be its history. In 1964, when most cities were razing their waterway banks for expansion, Boise understood that keeping the green backbone of the city would not only add to the pristine beauty, but also increase the quality of life for the people who live here. Built to embody the idea that people learn to live by interacting with their environment.

Now, 50 years later, The Afton finds itself across the street from the best junction to head east or west on either side of the river.

The path east flows toward the Lucky Peak waterfront and casually meanders by the Morrison Center, Boise State University, Zoo Boise, MK Nature Center, Warm Springs Golf Course, Barber Park, and Bown Crossing. Heading west rolls by Boise’s best river viewpoints from Ann Morrison Park, Kathryn Albertson Park, the soon-to-be completed Esther Simplot Park, all the way out to Willow Lane Park and beyond. The opportunities are endless and are only limited by your spirit of adventure and the direction you choose.

Everyone will recommend their favorite spot for you to visit, but ultimately the Greenbelt lets you choose the places no one knows about. The places to call your own.

Go out and find them for yourself. One step at a time.
